Karen began her career in 1996 and has extensive experience working with Adults, Children, Adolescents, families and couples.  She worked predominantly for the Health Department of WA in the area’s of adult psychiatry, Child and Adolescent outpatient clinics (CAMHS), Bentley Adolescent Unit and PMH (Department of Psychological Medicine and Endocrinology), before opening Karen Huggett and Associates, now known as Direction Psychological Services in 2008.

Karen provides psychological intervention for clients of all ages who are experiencing emotional, behavioural and/or psychological and psychiatric disorders.  She has a particular interest in working with children and teenagers and a focus on providing early intervention and preventative programs within the Perth Community.  Together with her team of experienced Clinical and Registered Psychologists she has a vision to promote mental health awareness, support other government and private allied health practices and work collaboratively with like minded organisations to address the ever increasing needs in our community.

Karen and the team at DPS aim to deliver individual and group psychological services in a timely and affordable manner to clients of all ages.

RENN CHEAH, Clinical Psychologist

Renn has experience working with adults as well as children, adolescents and their families providing assessments and targeted psychological interventions. He has an interest in treating depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, behavioural difficulties, sexual paraphilias and other inappropriate sexual behaviours. He also has experience working in the area of child protection and with sex offenders. Renn speaks Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Indonesian. He conducts ADHD & Educational assessments and runs some of the group programs at the practice.

SARAH HOLLOWAY, Registered Psychologist.

She takes an enthusiastic and empathic approach to supporting people through a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, workplace issues, learning difficulties, stress, grief, and anger. Sarah utilises a variety of evidence-based techniques to support people to develop the necessary skills to achieve and maintain good mental health.

ANASTASIA MAZZARDISRegistered Psychologist.

Anastasia is a registered Psychologist who has had experience working with children, teens, young adults, and their families, targeting issues such as behavioural difficulties, anger, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and social skills development. She believes that helping young people to understand their thoughts and emotions is a crucial step for development into mentally healthy adults, and utilises principles of CBT, mindfulness and ACT to help deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them. She is the current Group Facilitator at the practice.

NIKOLAS MILOSEVIC, Registered Psychologist. MAPSIn our JOONDALUP clinic

FullSizeRender 4Nikolas is a registered Psychologist whose passion lies in being able to work with people from all age groups and cultural backgrounds no matter the issue. He has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and elderly. He has seen people with presenting issues in depression, anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia, traumas, emotional avoidance, memory issues, workplace conflict, couples issues, domestic violence survivors and developmental issues. He also facilitates our group therapy programs for children, teens, and adults.

MICHAELA (MITCH) KOZAK, Registered Psychologist.

Michaela (Mitch) is a registered Psychologist who provides evidence-based psychological interventions and assessment services to adults and adolescents. She possesses over 15 years of experience within the therapeutic space and enhancing the well being of individuals, couples, families, and adolescents with range of presenting issues including anxiety, mood, trauma, personal development, grief and loss, adjustment to pain and injury, workplace concerns, career transition and life stages, relationships and self esteem. Mitch has been a registered psychologist for 10 years, working within the employment, disabilities and injury management, employee assistance programs, critical incident responses and mental health fields.

Mitch’s therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Psycho-dynamic, Systems, Schema, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT). Mitch’s caring, warm and empathetic approach enables client’s to feel at ease and is enthusiastic about transforming client’s lives though personal growth, guiding them through a crisis and improving their mental health well being.

JODIE HOLWILL, Registered Psychologist.

Jodie has been a registered psychologist for 25 years and has a post graduate diploma in counselling and degree in organisational psychology. She has worked for years with individuals from many different backgrounds. Jodie’s style of counselling is warm and practical, and she values getting to the problem quickly and providing her clients with the necessary skills to move forward. Jodie uses a range of counselling methods, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (working with negative thoughts), solution-focused therapy (problem solving) and ACT or mindfulness (relaxation training). Her practical therapy style addresses short term aims whilst working for long term solutions. Jodie is available for one-on-one, work-related or EAP counselling, working with children and adolescents in our Joondalup and Wembley locations.

LESLEY MCGREGOR, Registered Psychologist.

Lesley has extensive experience in psychological and counselling services, principally to adults in a range of different areas.  She has worked in the public sector, private sector, in the Workers Compensation system, and also with defence and their families. Lesley has a practice solution focused psychological approach, using evidence based techniques for clients who are experiencing difficulties. Her special areas of interest are: CBT, grief and loss, couple and family therapy, workplace stress, PTSD/Trauma, depression and anxiety, workplace conflict and resolution.

FRANK CHMELA, Registered Psychologist

Frank has extensive experience as a Registered Psychologist, working with clients in the private sector for 14 years to provide an integration approach to helping people. He has also previously worked with refugees to provide complex counselling and advocacy services for refugee survivors of torture and trauma from diverse cultural backgrounds. His background in EAP (Employee Assistance Program) roles also assisted with critical incident debriefing and dispute resolution. Frank sees teenagers, adults, older adults, and couples at our Joondalup practice.

CHRISTOPHER KWOK, Registered Psychologist In our JANDAKOT clinic

Christopher is a Registered Psychologist with 10 years’ experience and excellent therapeutic and interpersonal skills across different socio-economic statuses, and both corporate and non-profit environments.  He has extensive experience working in the drug and alcohol area.  Christopher enjoys working with adolescent and adult clients and has a particular interest and expertise in working with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression and stress.  He also provides group therapy aimed to build resilience and self esteem. Therapeutically, Chris favours a solution-focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach. He embraces humour, self-awareness, and community as essential elements of holistic change; is an advocate for social justice issues; and passionately believes in your ability to live a self-directed, values-driven, purposeful life.

JEFF HOWE Registered Psychologist

Jeff is a Registered Psychologist who offers counselling and psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. Jeff is warm and engaging, aiming to create a safe and relaxed space to work through issues including depression, anxiety, adjustment and trauma reactions, interpersonal / relationship conflicts and addiction. Jeff employs an interpersonal process approach, utilizing principles from CBT, DBT, ACT, Schema, Motivational Interviewing and Interpersonal Psychotherapy modalities.

MICHAEL SPARK Clinical Psychologist Registrar
In our JANDAKOT and AGED CARE clinics.

Michael has experience treating a wide range of psychological disorders with children, adolescents, adults and aged individuals. He has worked as a research-assistant investigating mental health in the mining industry, providing training, presentations and interventions across Australia. His own research has focused on father-child interactions and enhancing fluid intelligence; which has also been presented at various world conferences and symposiums. Michael has an extensive work history in residential youth work and disability care; which has provided the opportunity for him to live and engage with some of the most vulnerable and complex cohorts in Australia; strengthening his understanding of vulnerable populations and enhancing his capacity to provide therapeutic behavioural interventions. Michael’s volunteer work over the past decade has included engaging in outreach programs to Indigenous communities across the Norther Territory, and managing 25 teams of volunteers in twelve areas across South Australia. Currently, he volunteers as a coordinator for multiple youth programs across the Southern Perth area. His basic philosophy towards therapy is honouring an individuals journey by helping them unlock a more fulfilling life. He sees clients of all ages, and uses treatment approaches of reminiscence therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, brief solution focused therapy, and dialectical behavioural therapy.

KATHARINE McLEOD Registered Psychologist

Katharine is a Registered Psychologist who provides counselling support and therapeutic interventions to adult and adolescent clients.  She uses a warm and empathic approach to support individuals to work through issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, stress, trauma reactions, addictions, and other mental health issues.  Katharine provides treatments which are tailored to the individual client and may integrate elements of a range of evidenced-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).  Katharine has a particular interest in supporting clients from an LGBTIQ+ background. She has previously worked in the alcohol and other drugs field and with clients with severe and persistent mental health issues.
